The Landing Zone Team maintains daily operations and care for the Sanctuary's parrot's well being. The Executive staff shown below are the "Parrotheads" behind the foundation and the people responsible for collaborating, fund-raising, and doing the daily dirty work.

Catherine Lorraine Gilbert, Executive Director
Catherine "Cathy" Gilbert, age 52, is the co-founder of TLZPS and has Parrots as pets for over twenty years. She has a bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Missouri State University and a degree in Computer Programming from Draughon Business College.
She started The Landing Zone as a life long dream and plan.
She grew up on a beef-ranch in southern Missouri where she loved all animals and had a special fondness for the local birds. After receiving her fine arts college degree and working for a couple years as a church secretary and college teacher, she moved to Palm Springs, CA.
She has worked at country clubs, as an industrial giant and English lord's personal assistant for 7 years, at the Betty Ford Center in the family/children's department for a year, and worked making contracts, collecting and repair work with her husband in the swimming pool industry for over fifteen years.
She sees a need and is driven to serve the company of intelligent and deserving parrots who need homes long after their owners have lost interest in them or no longer capable of caring for them. She feels these parrots can not be returned to their dwindling original habitats as they were raised as pets and she wishes the parrots and the public to understand their lives are worthy of being kept safe and being loved.
She arranges, picks up, or meets with parrots' owners who wish donate their parrots or anything else to the Sanctuary. Her duties are spelled out in our bylaws , and include managing the day-to-day business of the organization attending meetings of our board of directors and voting on board decisions, as well as presiding over meetings in the absence of the chairman.
She also personally cares for the parrots, ensuring each receives nutritious food, care, & love, and is kept in a clean and secure environment. Mrs. Gilbert receives no compensation of any kind, and preforms her duties on an "as needed" basis.
Chelsea Gilbert, Chairman & Marketing, Design
Chelsea Gilbert, age 26, is an independent graphic designer
who grew up around parrots and shares a love for them.
She was born in Palm Springs, California and attended college in Springfield, Missouri, worked as prepress for a printing firm for two years, graphic design at a car wrapping company, a church, and an art gallery for four years, and has been the graphic designer and web editor for T. Barry Knickers for over five years.
She designed the logo for TLZPS, and and does all the graphic work, including setting up the website. She also runs ads to notify the public of our existence.
She arranges pick-ups or meets with parrots' owners who wish to donate their parrots or anything else to the Sanctuary. Miss Gilbert's duties are spelled out in our bylaws, and includes conducting meetings of our board, of directors, and voting on board decisions. Miss Gilbert receives no compensation of any kind, and performs her duties on an "as needed" basis.
K'Lynn Patterson Pearcy, Board Member
K'Lynn Patterson Pearcy, age 55, is an important Board member due to her over twenty years' experience as an economist with the Department of Agriculture.
She understands how how to apply economic analysis to problems requiring policy decisions and is quickly able to recommend alternatives and consequences.
she received her degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Ms. Pearcy receives no compensation of any kind, and performs her duties on an "as needed" basis.
Laura Azahares, Board Member
Laura Azahares is nearing completion of her Masters degree in agricultural education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, after receiving her degree from University of Missouri at Columbia, and is 28 years old.
She taught agricultural education for several years and helps us all to understand how we may impact school-aged children with our future educational programs.
She is in charge of purchasing at Flexsteel Industries in Harrison, Arkansas.
Ms. Azahares receives no compensation of any kind, and performs her duties on an "as needed" basis.
Cassi Friend, Board Member
Cassi Friend, age 28, has her own photography studio, Sugar Maple Photography, in Licking Missouri, and photographs both families and animals.
Cassi also work as a US Army radiologic technologist.
As a photographic artist, she assists with determining how best to present ourselves to the public. Her common sense and down-to-earth attitude keeps us all focused on the world and its need for harmony.
Ms. Friend receives no compensation of any kind, and performs her duties on an "as needed" basis.
James Kelly Gilbert, President
James "Kelly" Gilbert, age 60, co-founder, runs the business side of the Sanctuary.
While he also loves parrots, he is very able to work with the corporate needs.
He has 25 years' experience in pool service and has had his swimming pool builder contractor's license in California for the past ten years.
He has also worked as a shipping manager for a large clothing manufacturer and as a traffic manager for a large furniture manufacturer. He received his business degree from Southwest Missouri State University.
He built an 8x12' building for additional parrot housing to assist the sanctuary in our original location. He also installed a photo-voltaic (solar electrical) battery back-up system so that in the event of an electrical outage for any reason the parrots will be kept in comfort.
He also does repair work as needed, assembles cages and thoroughly cleans as needed.
Mr. Gilbert receives no compensation of any kind, and performs his duties on an "as needed" basis.
Madison L. Gilbert, Treasurer and Human Resources
Madison Gilbert, age 28, graduated from the Air Force Academy with a degree in Management. She is nearing completion of her Master's in Management for Auburn University in Alabama, where in one class she used our sanctuary as a project for information technology improvement, and when we are suitably funded we will follow those suggested improvements from the project.
She is a Captain in the US Air Force and worked as JSTARS maintenance officer at Warner Robbins AFB in Georgia before moving to Las Vegas Nevada for a position at Nellis AFB.
She speaks fluent Russian and has traveled there and to Ukraine, Slovakia, and has served overseas in the Air Force.
She is very important to our organization in setting up our rules and ensuring we may become successful.
Having run in many marathons and partial marathons, she is setting up a 5k for our organization in the Coachella Valley next November.
Her duties are spelled out in our bylaws, and include financial record keeping, accounting and reporting, and attending meetings, of our board of directors and voting on board decisions. Miss Gilbert receives no compensation of any kind, and performs her duties on an "as needed" basis.
James Alexander Gilbert, Secretary
James Alexander Gilbert, age 24, is our corporate secretary. He programs and makes on-line videos and small game, as well as writes music and songs.
He is a classically trained musician who also attended classes at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California, seeking his fine arts degree.
He has worked in the pool service business and at seasonal jobs locally while attending school including working at Gallery 446 in Palm Springs.
He volunteered through high school at Desert Regional Hospital.
He has a great respect and love for the parrots and he will be in charge of our information technology and educational video productions and properly recording minutes of our meetings.
Mr. Gilbert receives no competition of any kind, and performs his duties on an "as needed" basis.
Jeannie Pearcy, Founder Circle Member & Volunteer
Jeannie has helped The Landing Zone by putting in over 20 Volunteer Hours at Humana 2014, She has also helped us set up the Jolly Polly, a nonprofit concessionary that donates 100% of its proceeds to TLZPS.
Katrina Ramier, Volunteer
Katrina has helped The Landing Zone by putting in over 120 Volunteer Hours at the Sanctuary playing with Parrots and helping with Toy Construction, and at Humana 2014, She has also put in six working nights at The Jolly Polly to help raise funds for the Parrots of TLZPS.
Stephen Kong, Volunteer
Stephen has helped The Landing Zone by putting in over 10 Volunteer Hours at Humana 2014, and at the Sanctuary by playing with Parrots at TLZPS.
Cody Larson, Volunteer
Jeannie has helped The Landing Zone by putting in over 15 Volunteer Hours at Humana 2014, She has also helped us set up the Jolly Polly, a nonprofit concessionary that donates 100% of its proceeds to TLZPS.
